I’m one of those people who has multiple things going on at once.

While I’m cleaning, I’ll throw the TV on (usually on recorded episodes of Jeopardy so I can shout out as many answers as I can), and if I’m writing or doing homework, I have to be listening to some sort of music. Backround noise soothes my brain, and sometimes it even sparks creative ideas.

Most recently, though, in lieu of the music or TV shows, I’ve been listening to podcasts! In particular, I’ve been OBSESSED with this one podcast…

My Favorite Murder.

It’s strangely fascinating, really, why so many people are captivated by the world of murder and crime. I don’t know the scientific reasoning behind it, but I would suspect it’s because most of us don’t have it in us to go through with actually killing someone.

At least, I hope most of us don’t have it in us.

I’ve always imagined what it would be like to sit down with a serial killer, someone like Ted Bundy or John Wayne Gacy, and just talk to them; ask them questions and try to understand the workings of their inner thoughts. The things that must be going through the mind of somebody who has the potential to murder somebody must be enchanting… in a horrible, creepy, skin-crawling way, of course.

Anyway, let’s get to why we’re really here: to discuss how AH-MAY-ZING this podcast is..

Georgia Hardstark and Karen Kilgariff are my spirit animals.

Not only do these girls discuss true crime, they do it with humour! And anything that’s funny and creepy at the same time is alright with me. Every episode talks about different serial killers and even hometown stories that have been emailed in by listeners from all over the world.

The My Favorite Murder podcast has minisodes (shorter episodes where they read hometown stories), t-shirts, totes and mugs with sayings on them that you can buy, and cats! Elvis the cat makes an appearance every episode, and his meow makes my day.

It’s a pretty wicked podcast that I think everybody should listen to. I’ve listened to so many new cases that I haven’t heard before, and I’ve learned new facts about some of my favorite cases.

These girls keep me entertained. Now that I’m all caught up, I’m very upset that I have to wait a whole week for a new episode.

I’m sure I’m not the only one out there – actually, I KNOW I’m not the only one out there – who is fascinated with the world of serial killers, murder, and true crime, so I’ve included a short list of other podcasts us “murderinos” (as coined by the fans of My Favorite Murder) would like, just at the end of this post.

Other True Crime/Murder Podcasts

• Last Podcast on the Left – Similar to My Favorite Murder, Last Podcast on the Left discusses different murders, serial killers, random cold cases.. any and all things murder.
• Serial – Serial follows the case of Adnan Syed, a teenager accused and on trial for the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Hae Min Lee. It’s. So. Good.
• Someone Knows Something – This podcast is a CBC radio show, but listens similarly to Serial. It follows the disappearance of young Adrien McNaughton, back in Canada in 1972 – he was five years old. It’s bone chilling; even more so when you learn that it happened in the host, David Ridgen’s hometown, and he went back to do some more digging on the case.
• Sword and Scale – This podcast discusses murders and various other crimes, and also talks about the people involved. Basically, exactly like the other two. But different, you know?
